Facing East

The “Facing East” group is one of the premier music examples of the merger of east and west. Founded by bansuri flutist John Wubbenhorst with his unique history of growing up in the West and becoming an accomplished western flutist in jazz and western classical. Since his teens, John has pursued in-depth studies of Indian classical music under the direction of many Indian masters including bansuri maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia and the obtaining of 2 degrees in World music from the Rotterdam Conservatorium. The result is unique compositions and arrangements that have gained acclaim everywhere. John and “Facing East” have appeared with the likes of Victor Wooten, Jack DeJohnette, Howard Levy, Ramesh Mishra, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Subash Chandran, Ganesh Kumar and others in their unique world music experience.
