Special lesson opportunites in the Bay area for Indian classical and world music.

Bright World Arts is pleased to announce a limited amount of openings in the teaching schedule for John Wubbenhorst on bansuri, western flute, keyboards, vocal and composition. Due to John’s wide ranging talents, a variety of lesson subjects can be utilized. Most prominently, John teaches classical Indian music on the bansuri, expounding the techniques he has learned from his guru Hariprasad Chaurasia. John can also teach the learning of ragas on any instrument and has taught students on western flute, guitar, keyboards, bass, sax and vocals. John also teaches composition and is available for concerts and unique musical events such as workshops on topics such as “Sacred Sound”-a vocal and experiential journey into the sacred music of India, “Indian music concepts for the western musician”- a unique world music course applying Indian music concepts to jazz and other western musical forms and other subjects.


Also beginning May of 2012, Samrat Kakkeri is available for tabla instruction. Samrat brings a unique and deep understanding of the tabla which he has been studying since the age of 2 years old. Samrat’s first guru is his father Sri Mohan Kakkeri who himself is a disciple Ustad Shaik Dawood Khan from Hyderabad.

Samrat believes in teaching the traditional approach to tabla discipline while also learning how to adapt that deep tradition in the modern world. Samrat has played for the inauguration of Barack Obama, also for Jimmy Carter and has accompanied vocal, instrumental and also is part of the ground breaking jazz/indo fusion group “Facing East”.
